Woodford County is located in Central Illinois.  The largest city in the county is Eureka which is also the county seat.  In the 2000 census the population was 35,469 with and estimated population of 37,448 in 2005.  The median income in 2000 was $53,468.  The land area covered by Woodford County is 528 square miles and is partially within the Peoria, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).  The Federal Information Processing (FIPS) code is 017203.  The county is served by two interstate, three US, and five Illinois highways, one intrastate pipeline, and two railroads.  Woodford County has two navigable rivers and contains at least part of two signficant reservoirs.

Woodford County Emergency Management Agency (WEMA) provides disaster response coordination for all unincorporated areas of Woodford County and coordinates between the State of Illinois and any incorporated area of the county during disaster events.

Many hazards, such as Volcanic Erruption or Hurricane, may not directly affect the residents of Woodford County.  Many hazards will indirectly affect resident's ability to gain access to goods and services which pass through or orginate in the affected areas.  The increased cost of fuel and influx of evacuees from Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 is a excellent example of how a event can have indirect consequences in areas not directly involved in an event.
